Reducing O&M Costs and Ensuring Regulatory Compliance
We are very familiar with the requirements imposed by state and federal remediation project regulations and operating protocol. Unlike most other environmental remediation contractors, Envirogen provides a wide range of services in addition to our core Operations & Maintenance (O&M) business. We work with our customers on an on-going basis to provide expert advice in process optimization and operator training to effectively meet regulatory requirements at a variety of remediation and Superfund sites.
We deliver comprehensive solutions across the full project lifecycle:
- Research, Development, and Piloting Capabilities: We work with the client’s technical teams providing research and development studies of the process from bench-scale and demonstration/pilot-scale, which leads to the final design and process of the full-scale commercial system.
- Design & Build: Capabilities range from small pump and treat systems to designing large scale systems for treating several thousand gallons per minute. We provide custom, efficient, and reliable remediation systems built to exact specifications.
- Operations Support & Maintenance: We offer services to optimize groundwater remediation processes and reduce O&M costs. Almost all service, repairs, and maintenance are provided by our highly trained operators, mechanics, licensed electricians, and instrumentation specialists with very little usage of subcontractors.
Core Operational Support Services include:
- Permitting – Air, Land Use
- Groundwater sampling
- Process control & optimization
- System upgrades – design and construction services
- Treatability studies
- Instrumentation installation, maintenance, and calibration
- Automation and SCADA system integration
Proven Technology for Complex Contaminant Removal
Envirogen utilizes a range of high-performing technologies tailored to solve complex groundwater chemistry challenges, providing reliable, warrantied systems.
Key Technologies for Groundwater Remediation:
- Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR): Envirogen has over 30 installations of our FBR technology in the United States for groundwater remediation applications. This technology treats organic and inorganic contaminants and has demonstrated the ability to treat multiple targets effectively.
- Ion Exchange (IX): We have extensive experience with high-performing ion exchange (IX) technology in treating groundwater, as well as traditional pump and treat installations.
- Membrane Bioreactor (MBR): Our MBR technology offers solutions for groundwaters with recalcitrant organics, high contaminant concentrations, or for sites where system footprint is a concern.
- Advanced Metals Removal System (AMRS): Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) media effectively neutralize or eliminate specific pollutants, without generating toxic byproducts. The ZVI media reacts with the contaminants and removes them from the contaminated water.
Targeted Contaminants Removed:
Typical contaminants removed include ammonia, metals, organics and inorganic contaminants. This technology suite can also address challenging organics and inorganics such as those found in industrial settings, including alcohols, non-polar and polar organic solvents, glycols, and alkanolamines.
Product Recovery Capabilities:
Proprietary and patented technologies for purifying process streams yield operational improvements while meeting environmental and financial goals. We provide purification and separation technology for aqueous and non-aqueous specialty chemicals and provide catalyst (metals) recoveries from product or waste streams.
Experience Supporting Complex Superfund Activities
Envirogen personnel have decades-long experience supporting activities at Superfund sites. We have provided and executed design/build and comprehensive operations & maintenance programs for several Superfund clients on both the East and West coasts. Our experience includes upgrading several systems by installing new process equipment, SCADA and automation controls.
Representative Superfund Projects Highlights (Design-Build-Operate / O&M):
USEPA Region III (75 gpm)
Provided treatability studies, system design, construction, startup, and O&M for a pump and treat system that included air sparging, metals precipitation, and greensand filtration. Envirogen operated the system from 2002 through 2015 with excellent run time and a 100% compliance record.
USEPA Region II (Innovative Design)
Designed, constructed, and provided O&M services for a 50-gpm groundwater extraction and treatment system. This project featured an innovative design that resulted in significant cost savings for design, construction, and O&M, and included automation for unattended operation.
USEPA Region II (Complex O&M)
Provides comprehensive O&M services for a highly automated, 305-gpm system that includes flow equalization, metals precipitation, fluidized bed reactors, pressure filtration, and groundwater reinjection.
USEPA Region II (System Re-build)
Provided comprehensive O&M services for a system housed in a historic building. After a fire damaged the structure, we responded by rebuilding the system within an aggressive construction schedule.
Design-Build-Operate (175 gpm)
Provided treatability testing, pilot testing, process design, construction oversight, startup, and long-term O&M services for a system that includes chemical oxidation, phys/chem metals removal, biological treatment, filtration, and granular activated carbon. The system discharges to surface water with 100% compliance with the discharge permit.
