HEALTHCARE WATER TREATMENT SOLUTIONS FOR UK HOSPITALS
Envirogen designs, manufactures, installs and supports healthcare water treatment systems for NHS and private hospitals across the UK. Applications include endoscope reprocessing, sterile services, hospital water-safety filtration, laboratories and wider estates infrastructure.
The EndoTherm range is at the centre of the proposition, supported by MediShield, LabPure, UK engineering and manufacture, project integration and PureCare lifecycle service. This gives hospitals, washer manufacturers, contractors and consultants a clear route from early assessment and system selection through commissioning and validation to ongoing maintenance, monitoring, refurbishment and replacement across the full system lifecycle.

WATER PURIFICATION FOR ENDOSCOPY AND STERILE SERVICES
Endoscopy departments and Sterile Services Departments (SSDs) depend on purified water matched to the connected decontamination equipment and the site’s peak demand. A correctly designed endoscopy RO system must provide the required quality, flow and pressure while supporting resilience, validation, sanitisation, maintainability and future capacity and site expansion.
Envirogen’s EndoTherm range provides reverse osmosis water purification for endoscope washer-disinfectors, washer-disinfectors, sterilisers and associated equipment. Systems are designed to meet the relevant water-quality requirements of HTM 01-06 for flexible endoscope decontamination and HTM 01-01 for surgical-instrument decontamination, according to the application and selected configuration.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT ENDOTHERM SYSTEM
The appropriate model depends on the equipment schedule, water demand, available space, storage and distribution, utilities, resilience requirements and future plans.
From initial assessment, we can support EndoTherm projects through system selection and procurement. EndoTherm systems are available to purchase directly from Envirogen or through NHS Supply Chain in England and Wales or the NHS National Services Scotland (NSS/PSD) framework, as appropriate.
REPLACING AND MODERNISING RO SYSTEMS
As hospital RO systems approach the end of their asset lifecycle, replacement or modernisation provides an opportunity to address obsolete controls, limited monitoring, poor access, insufficient capacity or service arrangements that no longer support the department.
Envirogen can assess the existing plant, connected equipment, distribution and failure risks before recommending replacement, refurbishment or upgrade. For live departments, the delivery plan can include temporary continuity, shutdown windows, staged commissioning, water testing, validation and coordination with clinical teams. We work around your site-specific requirements to plan and deliver the project smoothly, minimising disruption and operational risk.
EARLY WATER-SYSTEM DESIGN FOR HOSPITAL 2.0 AND MAJOR PROJECTS
The New Hospital Programme (NHP) and its Hospital 2.0 approach are intended to support more standardised and repeatable hospital design. Specialist water treatment should therefore be considered before plant space, utilities and equipment interfaces become fixed.
Early engagement allows us to work in partnership with the project team to help define:
- Water quality, demand and pre-treatment.
- Plant-room space, utilities, access and maintainability.
- Storage, distribution, resilience and future expansion.
- Clinical-equipment, building-services, commissioning and validation interfaces.
Envirogen can work with NHS trusts, Hospital 2.0 Alliance partners, main contractors, MEP consultants, architects and equipment manufacturers to integrate the water package into the wider programme rather than leave it as a late-stage interface.
We welcome early consultation with project teams, including site visits. We can also host contractors, consultants and project partners at our UK manufacturing facility to discuss requirements and see our engineering and manufacturing capabilities first-hand.
NHS WATER-SAFETY FILTRATION WITH MEDISHIELD
Point-of-entry and point-of-use filtration can support a risk-based hospital water-safety strategy where the Water Safety Group identifies a need. MediShield POE/POU filtration combines back-washable metallic pre-filtration with sterile-grade 0.2-micron membrane filtration at point of entry, targeted higher-risk outlets or both. The approach can also support estates teams in implementing relevant requirements of NETB 2024/3. It supports, rather than replaces, wider controls including system design, temperature management, flushing, drainage and microbiological monitoring.
LABORATORY AND WIDER ESTATES WATER TREATMENT
LABORATORY WATER PURIFICATION
LabPure provides centralised, multi-technology laboratory water purification, combining RO and EDI in a compact, chemical-free system to produce reliable, high-purity water. Designed for hospital pathology, diagnostics, clinical research and laboratory applications, systems can be configured around the required water quality, capacity, distribution and connected equipment, while supporting low operating costs.
WIDER HOSPITAL ESTATES
Envirogen can also support wider hospital plant-room requirements, including water treatment for industrial boilers and cooling-water make-up, general purification and filtration, and the refurbishment and upgrade of ageing water treatment equipment. Each requirement is assessed against the existing infrastructure, operating conditions and long-term site priorities.
ENGINEERING, UK MANUFACTURE AND HEALTHCARE WATER TREATMENT LIFECYCLE SUPPORT
Envirogen supports healthcare water projects through three connected stages.
EndoTherm systems are manufactured and tested at Envirogen’s UK manufacturing facility in Alfreton. Hospitals, healthcare groups, OEMs and project teams can arrange a visit to review the production, testing and support capability. Subject to survey and the agreed service scope, Envirogen can also support other manufacturers’ water-treatment plant.
Explore PureCare maintenance for planned service, technical support and long-term healthcare water treatment maintenance.
ENVIROGEN HEALTHCARE AND LABORATORY PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Published healthcare and laboratory project examples demonstrate how Envirogen supports resilience, replacement, early integration, continuity, future capacity and specialist laboratory water requirements.
HEALTHCARE WATER TREATMENT FAQs
What information is needed to select an endoscopy RO system?
Selection should begin with the equipment schedule, required water quality, peak demand, incoming-water conditions, available space, storage and distribution, resilience, utilities and future expansion. Envirogen can assess these factors before recommending an EndoTherm configuration.
Can Envirogen support a live RO replacement?
Yes. The replacement plan can consider temporary continuity, phased installation, shutdown windows, water testing, validation and coordination with the clinical service so operational risk is addressed before work begins.
How should point-of-entry and point-of-use filtration be applied?
The Trust’s Water Safety Group should determine the need through local risk assessment. POE and POU filtration may be used separately or together, but they do not replace the wider water-safety controls required by the site.
Does Envirogen provide service and remote monitoring?
Yes. The agreed service scope can include planned maintenance, technical support, parts and consumables, performance review and PureCare RemoteView. Remote monitoring supports earlier investigation but does not replace regular site attendance or engineering judgement.
